Heating Systems We Repair
Most Central PA homes heat with one of these systems, and our technicians work on all of them every winter.
- Gas furnaces: ignition and flame-sensor problems, inducer and blower motors, limit and pressure-switch trips, control boards. Furnace repair
- Heat pumps: defrost problems, refrigerant leaks, reversing valves, backup heat strips, and Daikin FIT inverter systems. Heat pump service
- Ductless mini-splits: error codes, weak heating, and line-set or flare-connection leaks. Mini-split service
- Boilers: high or low pressure, expansion tanks, circulator pumps, zone valves and leaks. Boiler repair
- Oil furnaces and boilers: burner, nozzle, filter and ignition problems, plus draft and combustion checks. Oil heat service
- Dual-fuel systems: a heat pump with gas or oil backup that isn’t switching over the way it should.
We’re a Daikin dealer and also install Goodman, Cooper & Hunter, Velocity and New Yorker equipment.
Common No-Heat Problems We Fix
Furnace won’t turn on
Check that the thermostat is set to Heat and the breaker hasn’t tripped. If it still won’t start, the cause is usually a control, safety switch, ignition or power problem that needs diagnosis. No-heat step-by-step guide
Running but blowing cool air
Restricted airflow, a burner or ignition fault, or a failed control can keep a furnace running without real heat. Don’t let it run that way for hours; have it checked.
Keeps turning on and off
Short cycling usually points to airflow, a dirty flame sensor, overheating protection or thermostat problems. Why furnaces short cycle
Weak airflow or cold rooms
Filters, blower performance, duct leaks and balancing can leave some rooms cold. We check the airflow path as well as the equipment.
Burning smell or new noises
A dusty smell on the first cold day is normal. Banging, grinding, squealing or a smell that won’t fade is not. What’s normal on first startup
Heat pump blowing cold air
Defrost cycles are normal; cold air that lasts, ice that won’t clear, or backup heat that never kicks in are not. Heat pump blowing cold air
Boiler pressure high or leaking
A failed expansion tank or a bad pressure-reducing valve can push pressure up until the relief valve drips. A recent Camp Hill boiler repair
Thermostat not controlling the heat
The cause may be the thermostat, wiring, power or the equipment itself. We test the full control sequence instead of assuming the thermostat is bad.
Before You Call: Quick Checks
- Set the thermostat to Heat and raise it 3–4 degrees. Replace the batteries if the screen is blank.
- Check the breaker for the furnace, air handler or outdoor unit, and the furnace service switch (it looks like a light switch near the unit).
- Replace a dirty air filter.
- Make sure the furnace door panel is fully closed. Many furnaces won’t run with it loose.
- For heat pumps, clear snow and leaves from the outdoor unit and wait 15–20 minutes in case it’s defrosting.
- For oil heat, check the tank gauge. Don’t press the burner reset button more than once.
Still no heat? Stop there and call. Our step-by-step no-heat guide covers these checks in more detail.

Repair or Replace Your Heating System?
Most heating problems are worth repairing. Replacement is worth a conversation when:
- The same system keeps failing and repairs are adding up.
- A major component has failed, such as a cracked heat exchanger or a failed compressor.
- There’s a safety concern a repair can’t resolve.
- Rooms never get comfortable, even when the system is working correctly.
We’ll tell you which situation you’re in. If replacement makes sense, we’ll lay out options, including Daikin FIT inverter systems, with financing available for approved applicants. See heating replacement or read what happens when you replace a gas furnace.

Yes. Residential repairs carry a 1-year workmanship guarantee, and commercial repairs carry a 5-month workmanship guarantee.
Airflow restriction, ignition or burner problems, controls, electrical issues or another equipment fault can keep a furnace running without real heat. If it keeps blowing cool air, have it diagnosed before parts are replaced.
First confirm the thermostat is set to Heat and the breaker hasn’t tripped. If it still won’t start, the problem may involve power, controls, safety switches or ignition, which need diagnosis.
Short cycling can come from airflow restriction, a dirty flame sensor, thermostat or control issues, or overheating protection. Because it has more than one possible cause, it should be diagnosed.
Short bursts of cooler air during a defrost cycle are normal. Cold air that lasts, ice that won’t clear, or backup heat that never comes on can point to a refrigerant, defrost, control or airflow problem.
Yes. Along with gas furnaces, heat pumps and dual-fuel systems, we repair oil furnaces and boilers, hot-water boilers and ductless mini-splits.
Replacement is worth discussing when there are repeated failures, a major component failure, safety concerns, or comfort problems repairs aren’t solving. We explain the diagnosis first and give you straight options.
Stop using the heating system, get everyone out of the house, and call your gas utility or 911 from outside. Treat it as a safety emergency, not a routine repair.
