Water Heater Replacement & Installation

Water Heater Options for Central Pennsylvania Homes

Metro HVAC replaces residential water heaters in Camp Hill and surrounding Central Pennsylvania communities. We help homeowners compare the right tank or tankless system based on the home's fuel source, hot-water demand, venting, electrical capacity, water pressure and available space. The goal is dependable hot water and a clearly defined installation—not a one-size-fits-all recommendation.

Compare the Main Water Heater Types

The right choice depends on the utilities already serving the home, the installation location and how much hot water the household uses.

Electric Water Heaters

A dependable tank-style option for homes with an appropriate 240-volt circuit and sufficient electrical-panel capacity. Electric models have no combustion vent and can work well in basements, utility rooms and other approved indoor locations.

Best Fit

Homes already using an electric tank water heater and seeking a straightforward replacement.

Natural-Gas Water Heaters

Conventional gas water heaters provide familiar operation and strong recovery when the home has an approved gas supply, combustion-air arrangement and properly functioning vent or chimney connection.

Best Fit

Like-for-like replacement where the existing gas and vent systems remain appropriate for the new equipment.

Propane Water Heaters

Propane-rated water heaters provide tank-style hot water for homes outside the natural-gas service area. Equipment, controls, fuel pressure and venting must all be selected for propane operation.

Best Fit

Homes already supplied by propane and replacing an existing propane water-heating system.

Power-Vented Water Heaters

A powered fan moves combustion exhaust through an approved vent system. Power-vented models may be appropriate when a traditional gravity-vent connection is unavailable or when an existing power-vented heater is being replaced.

Best Fit

Existing power-vent installations or homes with an appropriate sidewall vent route and nearby electrical receptacle.

Tankless Water Heaters

Tankless systems heat water as it is used and require careful sizing around household demand, incoming-water temperature, fuel availability, venting and utility capacity. Water quality and scale control should also be considered during system design.

Best Fit

Homeowners seeking an on-demand system where the gas, electric, plumbing, venting and service conditions support the installation.

Installed Price Factors

What affects a water heater estimate?

A complete installed price includes more than the tank or appliance. Metro reviews the conditions that determine the actual scope before issuing a final written proposal.

Tank capacity or tankless flow requirement
Venting type, route and condition
Gas supply or electrical capacity
Basement, closet or difficult access
Plumbing, shutoff and connection changes
Required safety and system-protection items

Complete Installation Review

Protecting the new water heater

A replacement should account for the surrounding water, pressure, venting and drainage conditions—not just the appliance itself.

  • 1
Expansion tank evaluation Thermal expansion protection may be needed when the home has a closed water system, backflow device or pressure regulator.
  • 2
Water-pressure check Excessive household pressure can damage fixtures, appliances, valves and the new water heater.
  • 3
Drainage and shutoff review Metro reviews accessible shutoff valves, drain pans, discharge piping and related connections.
  • 4
Water-quality considerations Hardness and scale can affect tankless heat exchangers, heating elements, valves and long-term performance.

See a realistic installed water heater price range

Select electric, natural gas, propane, power-vented or tankless and answer a few short questions about the home. Metro's Instant Quote tool will show local planning ranges before the final on-site evaluation.

Water Softening, Filtration & Drinking Water

Whole-Home Water Treatment Built Around Your Actual Water

Metro HVAC installs residential water softeners, combined softening and filtration systems, private-well treatment equipment and reverse-osmosis drinking-water systems in Camp Hill and surrounding Central Pennsylvania communities. We start with the home's water source, visible concerns, household demand and installation conditions before recommending equipment. The system should be selected around the water problem—not the other way around.

Residential Water-Treatment Options

Some homes need hardness reduction, some need filtration and others require multiple treatment stages. Metro evaluates the concern before defining the recommended system.

Hardness & Scale

Whole-Home Water Softeners

A water softener is designed to reduce hardness minerals that contribute to scale, spotting and mineral buildup. Proper sizing considers measured hardness, household size, water usage and available flow.

  • Hard-water and scale evaluation
  • Metered regeneration controls
  • Household and flow-based sizing
  • Bypass, drain and plumbing review
  • System startup and homeowner orientation
Often considered when: Scale, fixture spotting and mineral buildup are the primary household concerns.

Hardness + Chlorine

Lancaster City Soft Plus

City Soft Plus is a combination treatment path for municipal water when the home needs both hardness reduction and carbon-based filtration for chlorine taste or odor. The final configuration is selected around water conditions and household demand.

  • Combined softening and filtration approach
  • Hardness and municipal-water evaluation
  • Chlorine taste and odor considerations
  • Household-capacity sizing
  • Professional setup and commissioning
Often considered when: The home has both hard-water symptoms and noticeable chlorine taste or odor.

Testing-Driven Selection

Private-Well Water Treatment

Private-well concerns can involve hardness, sediment, staining, odor or more than one condition at the same time. Equipment should be selected after reviewing meaningful water test results rather than guessing from appearance alone.

  • Water-condition and test-result review
  • Hardness, staining and odor evaluation
  • Single-stage or combination treatment planning
  • Flow-rate and household-demand review
  • Serviceability and maintenance planning
Important: Well-water equipment recommendations depend on actual test results, system flow and confirmed treatment goals.

Drinking-Water Treatment

Reverse-Osmosis Systems

A reverse-osmosis system provides dedicated drinking-water treatment, typically at the kitchen sink. The appropriate configuration depends on the source water, available cabinet space, plumbing arrangement and the treatment performance of the selected system.

  • Under-sink drinking-water treatment
  • Dedicated drinking-water faucet options
  • Membrane and filter-stage selection
  • Storage-tank and cabinet-space review
  • Filter-service and maintenance guidance
Often considered when: The homeowner wants a dedicated drinking-water system separate from whole-home hardness treatment.

The symptom helps identify the next evaluation

Similar-looking water problems can have different causes. These examples show the evaluation path—not a diagnosis made without testing.

White scale or spots Review water hardness, household usage and softener sizing.
Chlorine taste or odor Evaluate municipal-water conditions and carbon filtration options.
Staining or unusual odor Review the water source and obtain testing before choosing well-water treatment equipment.
Sediment or cloudiness Identify the source and determine whether filtration, plumbing or source-water evaluation is appropriate.
Poor drinking-water taste Evaluate a dedicated drinking-water or reverse-osmosis system.

A recommendation based on the home

The goal is to define the water concern, select appropriate equipment and make the installation easy to understand.

  1. 1
    Confirm the water source

We identify whether the home uses municipal water or a private well and document the homeowner's concerns.

  2. 2
    Review meaningful water information

Existing reports, field measurements or additional testing are reviewed when needed for system selection.

  3. 3
    Size the treatment equipment

Household size, measured conditions, flow and expected demand are considered before defining the equipment.

  4. 4
    Install, commission and explain

Metro completes the installation, verifies operation and reviews normal system care with the homeowner.

What affects the cost of water treatment?

The Instant Quote tool provides a planning range. Final pricing depends on the confirmed equipment, plumbing layout, water conditions and installation requirements.

Water source and measured conditions
Household size and expected demand
Main-water-line access and plumbing changes
Drain, discharge and electrical access
One treatment stage versus a combination system
Equipment location, access and available space

Water Pressure, Valves & System Protection

Protect Your Home from High Water Pressure and Thermal Expansion

Metro HVAC provides whole-house water pressure regulator replacement, thermal expansion tank service, main shutoff valve replacement and selected residential water-system repairs in Camp Hill and surrounding Central Pennsylvania communities. We evaluate how the incoming water supply, pressure-control equipment, water heater and accessible plumbing connections work together. The goal is stable pressure, dependable shutoff control and better protection for the home's fixtures and appliances.

Residential Water-Pressure and Protection Services

Not every pressure complaint has the same cause. Metro checks the current pressure, regulator, expansion protection and accessible valves before defining the recommended repair.

Incoming Water Control

Whole-House Pressure Regulator Replacement

A pressure-reducing valve, often called a PRV or water pressure regulator, helps control the pressure entering the home. A worn, sticking or improperly adjusted regulator can contribute to excessive pressure, weak pressure or noticeable pressure swings.

  • Incoming static water-pressure measurement
  • Existing regulator condition evaluation
  • Whole-house PRV replacement when appropriate
  • Accessible piping and connection review
  • Final pressure adjustment and operational testing
Important: Low or inconsistent pressure is not automatically a failed regulator. Metro evaluates the system before recommending replacement.

Water-Heater Protection

Thermal Expansion Tank Service

Water expands as it is heated. In a closed residential water system, a properly selected and charged thermal expansion tank provides space for that changing water volume. Failed or incorrectly configured expansion protection can place unnecessary stress on the water heater and plumbing system.

  • Existing expansion tank condition check
  • Expansion tank replacement when failed or leaking
  • Tank sizing based on the connected water-heating system
  • Pressure and pre-charge verification
  • Mounting and accessible connection review
Often addressed with: Water-heater replacement, pressure-regulator service or investigation of recurring pressure-related symptoms.

Dependable Water Control

Main Shutoff and Isolation Valves

A dependable shutoff valve allows the home's water supply or an individual appliance to be isolated during service or an unexpected leak. Metro replaces selected accessible shutoff and isolation valves that are leaking, seized, corroded or no longer closing properly.

  • Accessible main water shutoff valve replacement
  • Water-heater isolation valve replacement
  • Selected appliance and equipment shutoff valves
  • Leaking, seized or partially closing valves
  • Accessible piping and connection repairs
Project scope: Metro focuses on accessible residential valve work that does not require major excavation, extensive repiping or building reconstruction.

Selected Supply-Side Repairs

Water-Pressure Troubleshooting

Pressure complaints can involve the regulator, municipal supply, well equipment, a restriction, a failing valve, thermal expansion or more than one condition. Metro evaluates the accessible residential water system before recommending a specific repair.

  • Static and operating pressure evaluation
  • High, low or fluctuating pressure concerns
  • Accessible regulator and shutoff inspection
  • Water-heater and expansion-system review
  • Selected minor supply-side plumbing repairs
Clear recommendation: If the cause falls outside Metro's residential plumbing scope, we will explain the finding and identify the type of specialist the project requires.

Pressure control is more than one valve

The water regulator, expansion tank, shutoff valves and water heater should be evaluated as parts of one connected residential water system.

1
Control incoming pressure

The whole-house regulator reduces and stabilizes the pressure entering the home's plumbing.

2
Manage thermal expansion

The expansion tank provides room for water volume to change as the water heater operates.

3
Maintain dependable isolation

Working shutoff valves allow equipment or the home to be isolated when service is required.

4
Verify the completed system

Metro rechecks pressure, connections and operation after the selected repair is completed.

A practical residential evaluation

Our evaluation is focused on finding the visible and accessible conditions that are most relevant to the reported plumbing or pressure problem.

  • Current water pressure

Pressure is measured and compared with the homeowner's reported symptoms.

  • Regulator and valve condition

Accessible pressure-control and shutoff components are checked for leakage, corrosion and operation.

  • Expansion protection

The existing thermal expansion tank and its connection to the water-heating system are reviewed.

  • Access and plumbing layout

Pipe material, available space and the location of the equipment affect the final repair scope.

What affects the cost of pressure and valve work?

Final pricing depends on the selected component, pipe size, material, accessibility and whether additional conditions are discovered after the water is isolated.

Existing pipe size, material and condition
Basement, utility-room or finished-area access
Regulator size and pressure-control requirements
Expansion-tank size, mounting and connection
Ability to isolate the home or equipment safely
Additional accessible connections requiring repair
